Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Catching Fire speculation

Huge news for Hunger Games fans.  It seems that producers have approached Phillip Seymour Hoffman to take on the role of the Head Gamemaker, Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Hoffman was first considered to play the drunken by somewhat endearing mentory Haymitch – the part that went to Woody Harrelson.  But maybe this time they’ve managed to snag him.  According to Variety’s Jeff Sneider, Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee with shooting to start on Catching Fire in the coming months.

If you don’t remember who Plutarch Heavensbee is – well he plays a small, but crucial role in Catching Fire.  Check out the character profile here.  However with a power house like Hoffman at the helm, you’d have to wonder just how big the role will be.  After all, Wes Bentley’s character, Seneca Crane was fleshed out for the movie.

So far there’s still no word from Lionsgate, but naturally we’ll let you know as soon as it’s confirmed.  In the meantime, let us know what you think of this pretty awesome news!  Do you think he’s the right person for the part?  I give it a big thumbs up.
